Terms & Health Disclaimer
Last updated: August 2026
Arrive is a wellbeing app, not medical care. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything, and nothing in the app or on this site is medical advice. Use it sensibly, stop if something hurts, and talk to a doctor about anything that concerns you.
The app is licensed to you for personal use. We provide it as-is, and our liability is limited to what the law allows us to limit. The full text below governs your use of Arrive, so please read it.
1. Not medical advice
Arrive provides no medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. It is not a medical device, it has not been evaluated by any medicines or devices regulator, and it makes no therapeutic claim.
The practices in Arrive are ordinary self-regulation techniques: shaking, tapping, breathing, orienting, stretching, warmth and cold. People have used them for a long time and they carry low risk for most adults. Low risk is not no risk, and it is not the same as being right for you.
Never disregard professional advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read or heard in this app.
2. Arrive is not a diagnostic tool
When Arrive asks how you are arriving and you tap a word, nothing is being assessed. The app has no view on your mental health, your nervous system or your medical history. It maps a word to a practice using fixed rules.
Do not read the app's suggestions as findings about you. If you want to know what is going on with your health, see a medical professional who can examine you.
3. Somatic practice: what the evidence does and does not say
A lot of what Arrive offers has good research behind it. Cyclic sighing, slow breathing near six breaths a minute, and orienting all appear in published trials, and the app says so where it applies.
Those are population-level findings. They describe what happened on average to groups of people in studies, not what will happen to you on a particular Tuesday. Individual responses to somatic practice vary widely, and some people notice little at all.
Arrive is designed for ordinary states in ordinary life: wound up after work, wide awake at one in the morning, flat and unable to start. It is not designed for, and should not be used as, treatment for a diagnosed condition.
4. Movement practices
Several practices involve shaking, bouncing, twisting, pressing against a wall and moving your neck and jaw. Work within your own range and stop before anything sharp.
Check with a doctor or physiotherapist first if you have a neck, back, shoulder or joint injury, have had recent surgery, have osteoporosis or a bone condition, are pregnant, or have any condition affected by physical exertion.
Never do a movement practice while standing somewhere a moment of unsteadiness would matter, and never on a moving vehicle.
5. Breathing exercises: safety information
The breathing patterns deliberately change your breathing rate, and slow or held breathing can cause light-headedness, tingling in the hands or face, or a brief feeling of breathlessness.
Never practise breathing exercises while driving, cycling, operating machinery, in or near water, at height, or anywhere a dizzy moment would be dangerous. Sit or lie down.
Talk to a doctor before using them if you have cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, epilepsy or a seizure disorder, asthma, COPD or another respiratory condition, are pregnant, have a history of fainting, have glaucoma, or experience panic that breathwork has worsened before.
Stop immediately if you feel faint, if your chest hurts, or if the breathing itself starts to feel frightening. Return to breathing normally.
6. Temperature practices
Cold Shower, Warm Shower and Cool Reset involve temperature exposure, and Cool Reset combines cold on the face with a brief breath hold.
Skip these entirely if you have a heart condition or arrhythmia, have high or unstable blood pressure, have Raynaud's or reduced skin sensation, have a seizure disorder, or are pregnant. Cold exposure raises heart rate and blood pressure sharply, and the combination of cold and a breath hold is not appropriate for everyone.
Never practise a breath hold in water.
7. Psychological considerations
Body-based practice sometimes brings up more than you expected. Slowing down, closing your eyes or paying attention to your body can bring on strong feelings, old memories or plain discomfort, and more so for people who have been through something difficult.
If that happens, stop, open your eyes, look around the room and put your feet on the floor. Arrive is not mental health treatment and offers no clinical support. If difficult feelings or memories keep coming up, speak to a qualified professional.
8. Emergencies
Arrive is not for use in an emergency or a crisis. It works entirely offline, holds no networking code, and cannot alert anyone on your behalf under any circumstances.
If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line: call or text 1737 in New Zealand, Lifeline on 13 11 14 in Australia, call or text 988 in the US and Canada, Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland.
9. Children and minors
Arrive is rated 13+ on the App Store and is not intended for younger children. It collects no data from anyone, of any age, so there is nothing for a parent or guardian to request, correct or have erased.
If you are under 18, use Arrive with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. Nothing in it replaces advice from a doctor, and the safety notes in sections 4 to 7 apply to you in full.
10. No guarantees
We promise no outcome. Arrive is provided "as is" and "as available", and to the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will run uninterrupted or error-free, or that any practice will work on you.
11. Your licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Arrive on Apple devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the App Store rules.
You may not copy, modify or create derivative works of the app; reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded; extract, redistribute or republish its audio, text, imagery or exercise content; rent, lease, lend, sell or sublicense it; use it to build a competing product; or remove any proprietary notices.
12. Ownership
Arrive, its source code, design, name, logo, recorded voice content, written instructions and the arrangement of its library belong to Escape Velocity Studio Ltd and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property law. The underlying techniques are not ours. Physiological sighing, orienting and box breathing sit in the public commons. This particular expression, ordering and recording of them does not.
13. Price and purchases
One practice a day of your choice is free. Unlocking the full app costs a single payment of $39.99 (or the local equivalent set by Apple). There is no subscription and no renewal date.
Apple processes every purchase under Apple's terms, including refunds, which Apple handles rather than us. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Practices and improvements we add later arrive in the app you already bought. If we ever build something large enough to sell separately, it will be sold separately to people who want it, and your copy of Arrive will keep working as it did the day you bought it. We will not place a previously free feature behind a payment for people who already have the app.
14. Availability and changes
We may update, change or discontinue Arrive or any of its features, and we may stop supporting older versions of iOS. Because the app runs entirely on your device, a version you have installed keeps working as long as your device does. We cannot switch it off remotely.
15. Your data
Arrive stores everything locally and transmits nothing to us. Your history sits in the app's own storage, which means it is included in your iPhone backup, and for most people that is iCloud. That is how it survives a new phone.
It also means deleting the app does not always remove every copy. A backup made while the app was installed still holds one. To clear it completely, delete the app and then switch Arrive off for iCloud Backup in Settings, or delete the backup itself. Lose the phone with no backup and the history is gone for good. We cannot recover any of it at any point, because we never held a copy. See the privacy policy.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Escape Velocity Studio Ltd is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of or inability to use Arrive. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
17. Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Arrive. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product liability, regulatory compliance or third-party intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
18. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and disputes fall to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts. Consumers resident elsewhere keep the benefit of any mandatory protections under their own country's law.
19. Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The date at the top shows the current version and material changes appear in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Arrive after a change means you accept the revised terms.
20. Severability
If any provision here is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that provision applies to the maximum extent permitted.
